This week, we made Mr. or Ms. Potato Heads out of construction paper. Then, we glued them on a big white sheet of paper and labeled the five senses. Check out some of our students' work!

Every Monday, one student bring in his/her favorite game to school to teach his/her peers during centers in the morning. The kids LOVE teaching others about their favorite game. We have had Sorry, Go Fish, jacks, and Candy Land to name a few. Check out some pictures over the weeks! Thanks to the parents who came to help their child!
This week, Ms. Porter and the two other kindergarten teachers put up a lego board, magnet board and a gear board. In their centers on Wednesday, the kids were free to play around and explore the different boards. I think the lego board was everyones favorite. The kids created some wonderful lego structures! They also used the magnets and made flowers and other designs. The magnet board has shape, letter and number magnets. Ask your child which was his.her favorite board! I am excited to have these up in our hallway from now on!
Happy St. Patricks Day! We had such a fun time celebrating! During our maker time, the students had to make a leprechaun trap and explain how it works. The students could use any of the supplies in the craft corner and had to create some sort of trap to capture a leprechaun. They really enjoyed creating these and had such creative ideas! Check some of them out!
Today, Ms. Porter read the book The King of ING by Cindy Lou to learn about 'ing' words. Each of the three kindergarten classes had an activity. The students rotated from class to class. Ms. Porter dressed up as the King of ING and read the story to all of the kindergarten classes. After reading the book, the students looked through magazines and cut out different words that had 'ing' in them. Then, the glued the words to a crown that they decorated. They all really enjoyed it!
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! On Monday, our class celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. We all wore our pajamas and made Dr. Seuss hats! We even measured our hats to review our math unit on measuring length. The kindergartners LOVED wearing their PJ's to school and enjoyed reading numerous books by Dr. Seuss. Thank you to all the parents who came in and helped today!
This week we learned about measurement during some of our math centers. The kids learned about length and weight. They learned how to measure length with different items and then with a ruler. They also learned how to measure weight using a scale and a balance scale. The students made paper airplanes and used rulers to measure the distance they flew. Phillip's flew the farthest at 30 rulers long! The kids really enjoyed weighing different items both on the large scale and with the smaller balance scale. You can practice their new measuring skills with them at home! This week we had another mystery Skype with Ms. Lash's kindergarten class. We skyped with her students and asked them some questions about where they live. Some of these questions included: What season is it there? Do you have snow? How many letters are in your states name? Are you near water?
We found out that it is winter and they have TONS of snow. They have 9 letters in their states name and are near water. We looked at our maps and put an "x" over the states that did not fit the criteria. Leah thinks they live in Minnesota and Timmy believes they are in Wisconsin. We will Skype with Ms. Lash's class next week and see if our guesses were right! Our class celebrated Valentine's Day yesterday. We made Valentine's holders and had a party with our teachers, parents and the other kindergarten classes. We decorated cupcakes, delivered our cards and read some stories about Valentine's Day. Thank you for everyone who helped out. We all had a blast!
