This week we learned about measurement during some of our math centers. The kids learned about length and weight. They learned how to measure length with different items and then with a ruler. They also learned how to measure weight using a scale and a balance scale. The students made paper airplanes and used rulers to measure the distance they flew. Phillip's flew the farthest at 30 rulers long! The kids really enjoyed weighing different items both on the large scale and with the smaller balance scale. You can practice their new measuring skills with them at home!
This week we had another mystery Skype with Ms. Lash's kindergarten class. We skyped with her students and asked them some questions about where they live. Some of these questions included: What season is it there? Do you have snow? How many letters are in your states name? Are you near water?
We found out that it is winter and they have TONS of snow. They have 9 letters in their states name and are near water. We looked at our maps and put an "x" over the states that did not fit the criteria. Leah thinks they live in Minnesota and Timmy believes they are in Wisconsin. We will Skype with Ms. Lash's class next week and see if our guesses were right! Our class celebrated Valentine's Day yesterday. We made Valentine's holders and had a party with our teachers, parents and the other kindergarten classes. We decorated cupcakes, delivered our cards and read some stories about Valentine's Day. Thank you for everyone who helped out. We all had a blast!
